House in foreground was built for Prof. V. E. Shephard's residence, later occupied by Prof. William B. Alwood, and still later used as the Administration Building. In the background is the station building, greenhouse, and Solitude, former home of Col. Robert T. Preston, built in 1859. Near the grove are old barns.
