2/17/2005: email received from D. Sherwood, England:
The description regarding this particular photograph is
wrong, the Loco in question is not the Royal Scot, but an A3 Pacific, No 4472, "Flying Scotsman". It was built in 1925 and was the first loco to have officaly reached 100 mph(1934). The loco visted the USA in 1968 / 69, which wouldtie in with the photograph date. It is currently preserved by the National Railway Collection, York, England |
